MESSIANIC LESSON

921 We walk by faith and not by sight

SYNOPSIS: What does it mean to walk by faith and not by sight? Does that mean a blind person who believes in YESHUA can drive a car? In the book of Iyov his wife says to him, “that he should curses GOD and die.” Why was she not struck down immediately from heaven? Rav Sha’ul reminds his readers that followers of Messiah must not build their lives around things that have no eternal significance. Walking by faith means living life in light of eternal consequences. To walk by faith is to fear God more than man; to obey the Bible even when it conflicts with man’s commands; to choose righteousness over sin, no matter what the cost; to trust God in every circumstance; and to believe God rewards those who seek Him, regardless of who says otherwise. Today’s HaShabbat lesson will focus on walking by faith and not by sight.

2Co 5:6  So we are always confident—we know that so long as we are at home in the body, we are away from our home with the Lord;

2Co 5:7  for we live by trust, not by what we see.

Iyov (Job) 2:7-10 Curse God, and die!

Job 2:9  His wife asked him, "Why do you still hold on to your integrity? Curse God, and die!"

Job 2:10  But he answered her, "You're talking like a low-class woman! Are we to receive the good at God's hands but reject the bad?" In all this Iyov did not say one sinful word.

Job 2:9

2Co 5:7

HOLD PLACE

Mattiyahu (Mat) 7:13-14 hard road that leads to life.

Mat 7:13  "Go in through the narrow gate; for the gate that leads to destruction is wide and the road broad, and many travel it;

Mat 7:14  but it is a narrow gate and a hard road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

2Co 5:7

2Co 5:6 - 7

SEE – SIGHT: G1491 εἶδος eidos Thayer Definition: the external or outward appearance, form figure, shape

Romans 8:24-25 if we see what we hope for, it isn't hope.

Rom 8:24  It was in this hope that we were saved. But if we see what we hope for, it isn't hope—after all, who hopes for what he already sees?

Rom 8:25  But if we continue hoping for something we don't see, then we still wait eagerly for it, with perseverance.

HOLD PLACE

Mattiyahu (Mat) 6:19-21 store up for yourselves wealth in heaven.

Mat 6:19  "Do not store up for yourselves wealth here on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and burglars break in and steal.

Mat 6:20  Instead, store up for yourselves wealth in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and burglars do not break in or steal.

Mat 6:21  For where your wealth is, there your heart will be also.

Mat 6:19-21

Rom 8:24-25

Heb 11:6  And without trusting, it is impossible to be well pleasing to God, because whoever approaches him must trust that he does exist and that he becomes a Rewarder to those who seek him out.

B’resheet (Gen) 40:12-41:1 walk by faith no matter what.

Gen 40:14  But remember me when it goes well with you; and show me kindness, please; and mention me to Pharaoh, so that he will release me from this prison.

Gen 40:15  For the truth is that I was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews, and here too I have done nothing wrong that would justify putting me in this dungeon."

Gen 40:23  Nevertheless, the chief cupbearer didn't remember Yosef, but forgot him.

Gen 41:1  At the end of two years, Pharaoh had a dream: he was standing beside the Nile River;

B’resheet (Gen) 37:2-4 Isra'el loved Yosef the most of all his children.

Gen 37:3  Now Isra'el loved Yosef the most of all his children, because he was the son of his old age; and he made him a long-sleeved robe.

Gen 37:4

B’resheet (Gen) 37:14-20 they had already plotted to kill him.

Gen 37:14  He said to him, "Go now, see whether things are going well with your brothers and with the sheep, and bring word back to me." So he sent him away from the Hevron Valley, and he went to Sh'khem,

Gen 37:18-20

B’resheet (Gen) 37:23-24 no warning.

Gen 37:23  So it was that when Yosef arrived to be with his brothers, they stripped off his robe, the long-sleeved robe he was wearing,

Gen 37:24  and took him and threw him into the cistern (the cistern was empty; without any water in it).

B’resheet (Gen) 37:27-28 could you walk by faith through this?

Gen 37:27  Come, let's sell him to the Yishma`elim, instead of putting him to death with our own hands. After all, he is our brother, our own flesh." His brothers paid attention to him.

Gen 37:28  So when the Midyanim, merchants, passed by, they drew and lifted Yosef up out of the cistern and sold him for half a pound of silver shekels to the Yishma`elim, who took Yosef on to Egypt.

B’resheet (Gen) 39:1-3 becomes a slave, but keeps walking by faith.

Gen 39:1  Yosef was brought down to Egypt, and Potifar, an officer of Pharaoh's and captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Yishma`elim who had brought him there.

Gen 39:2  YEHOVAH was with Yosef, and he became wealthy while he was in the household of his master the Egyptian.

Gen 39:3  His master saw how YEHOVAH was with him, that YEHOVAH prospered everything he did.

B’resheet (Gen) 39:7-9 walk by faith don’t sin against ELOHIM.

Gen 39:7  In time, the day came when his master's wife took a look at Yosef and said, "Sleep with me!"

Gen 39:8  But he refused, saying to his master's wife, "Look, because my master has me, he doesn't know what's going on in this house. He has put all his possessions in my charge.

Gen 39:9  In this house I am his equal; he hasn't withheld anything from me except yourself, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?"

B’resheet (Gen) 39:12-15 she lies about him.

Gen 39:12  she grabbed him by his robe and said, "Sleep with me!" But he fled, leaving his robe in her hand, and got himself outside.

Gen 39:13  When she saw that he had left his robe in her hand and had escaped,

Gen 39:14  she called the men of her house and said to them, "Look at this! My husband brought in a Hebrew to make fools of us. He came in and wanted to sleep with me, but I yelled out loudly.

Gen 39:15  When he heard me yelling like that, he left his robe with me and ran out."

B’resheet (Gen) 40:14 remember me.

Gen 40:14  But remember me when it goes well with you; and show me kindness, please; and mention me to Pharaoh, so that he will release me from this prison.

B’resheet (Gen) 41:46 how old was he when he got robe?

Gen 41:46  Yosef was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt; then he left Pharaoh's presence and traveled through all the land of Egypt.
